Yoga Retreat and Service Project in Peru:
Holidays and New Year’s 2009/2010
Take your practice off the mat and into the world with this two-week community service and yoga adventure in the magical and mystical Andes of Peru with Anusara Yoga Instructors Zhenja La Rosa and Jordan Mallah.
December 20, 2009 – January 3, 2010 Experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live in a rural, indigenous, Andean village. Share the gifts of this life and the blessings of yoga during the Holiday season. Rejuvenate your body and spirit with a full-on yoga retreat that culminates with a spiritual ascent to Machu Picchu, one of the most sacred sites on earth.
Service Project in La Grama, Cajamarca:
December 20-27. Journey with Zhenja and Jordan to the remote, indigenous Andean village of La Grama, the town where Jordan lived for three years as a Peace Corps volunteer. During this first week, we will put our yoga into action by co-creating an organic community garden at the local health post. This garden will help feed the community and become a center for learning about nutrition and organic farming. We’ll have time to share stories with our hosts in the community, visit the regional market, practice yoga daily, and experience Andean village life from the inside out. The festivities of Christmas in the village will be heightened by the inauguration of the new garden and the joy of cross-cultural exchange. Our last night in the region will be spent at the Laguna Seca spa, where we can rejuvenate in the healing waters of geothermal hot springs.
Yoga Retreat in Cusco:
December 27 – January 3. For the second week, we’ll travel to the Sacred Valley in southernPeru for an intensive yoga retreat at the Hanaq Pacha Retreat Center just outside of Cusco. During our stay, we will have two daily yoga practices plus ample free time to explore Cusco and meet the children at the Casa de Milagros, a local orphanage sponsored by Hanaq Pacha. On New Year’s Eve, we’ll hike part of the Inca Trail to Aguas Calientes and spend the night there to see the sun rise over Machu Picchu, one of the most sacred sites in the world. We have the great fortune of being guided in this part of the adventure by a local shaman who is intimately connected to the land.
